THE KITCHEN BEFORE

This kitchen in Sketty had clearly been in place for a good number of years. The white shaker-style cabinet doors were tired and dated, the hinges worn, and the doors themselves sitting unevenly on their frames. The oak-effect laminate worktops had done their time but were showing their age, and the beige square wall tiles – running floor to ceiling on two walls – gave the whole space a heavy, dated feel. The pale grey floor tiles were practical enough, but did little to lift the room. It wasn’t a bad kitchen, but it had run its course.

WHAT WE DID

This project was a handle, worktop, and door replacement – a refurbishment rather than a full strip-out, but no less important for it. We removed all the existing cabinet doors and replaced them with clean, handle-free slab-style doors in a warm white finish, giving the carcasses a completely new lease of life without the cost of a full replacement. The worktops were swapped out for a fresh new surface that sharpened up the whole look instantly. We retained the existing double oven, induction hob, and extractor, all of which were in good working order and sat neatly within the refreshed layout. The existing floor and wall tiles were kept in place, and with the new doors and worktops doing the heavy lifting, they read quite differently against the updated finish.

THE RESULT

The difference is remarkable for what was, at its core, a targeted refresh. The kitchen feels modern, clean, and considered – proof that you don’t always need to gut a space to transform it. Sometimes, the right doors and worktops are all it takes. At Acorn Installations, we’re just as proud of smart, well-executed refurbishments as we are of full installations – because getting the details right is what we’re about, wherever we’re working across Swansea and South Wales.
